Bondi Beach: Bowl-a-rama

Bondi Beach Skate Park, Saturday 21 February: fifth annual Bowl-a-rama. This competition is part of a week-long skateboarding festival with art shows, video premieres and live music. It is the biggest concrete event in the Southern Hemisphere. More that 40 of the world's top boarders participated in this festival.

Co ma Redfern wspólnego z papieżem Janem Pawłem II? W tamtejszym Kościele Sw.Wincentego znajduje się niezwykły fresk z fragmentem tekstu, który polski papież wyglosil w Alice Springs do rdzennej ludności Australii w 1986 roku. Byl to historyczny moment dla Aborygenów. Dla nich te slowa mają takie znaczenie jak dla Polaków homilia Jana Pawla II z czerwca 1989 roku na Placu Zwycięstwa w Warszawie: " Niech wstąpi Duch Twój i odnowi oblicze ziemi, tej ziemi".

Redfern

Redfern is an inner-city suburb of Sydney located 3 kilometres south of the CBD.The suburb is named after surgeon William Redfern, who was granted 100 acres (0.40 km2) of land in this area in 1817 by governor Lachlan Macquarie.

According to the 2006 census, Redfern has a population of 11,482 people, with indigenous people making up 2.4% of the population. 35% of the population was born overseas. 55.9% of the population only spoke English at home, with the most important other languages being Chinese languages (5.5%), Russian (2.4%), Greek (2.4%) and Arabic (1.7%). 25.0% of the population identified with no religion/atheism, higher than the national average. Of the remainder, 19.9% were Catholic, 10.9% Anglican, 4.4% Eastern Orthodox, and 3.9% Buddhist. Furthermore, 41.6% of the population lived in public housing.

'The Block' is an Aboriginal community area in the immediate vicinity of Redfern station.

Longest dragon


Twenty years ago during the August Moon Festival Sydney have first time a Golden Dragon performance in Chinatown.The dragon measured 46 meters long. During the past twenty years Yau Kung Mun Martial Arts Association has been performing the Dragon Dance to promote the art of ethnic culture and to entertain the Australian public with it.
In this year Golden Dragon measuring 130 meters long and it is hope that this could be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as a longest performing dragon. Dragon dance require more than 120 very fit persons.
On Sunday, 8 February enter the Longest Dragon in Tumalong Park, Darling Harbour closed three weeks long Chinese New Year Festival.

Ponad 3000 wioslarzy z calej Australii, ludzie roznych profesji i wieku wzięli udzial w sobotę i niedzielę na Darling Harbour w wyscigach smoczych lodzi (Dragon Boats). Byl to najbardziej eksytujący emocjonalnie punkt trzytygodniowego chińskiego festiwalu rozpoczęcia Roku Bawoła.

Najbardziej gorący weekend tego lata w Sydney. W zachodnich dzielnicach metropolii temperatura sięgala 42 st.C. Miejskie fontanny byly dla dzieci najlepszym ratunkiem przed upalem.

Henan Province in Sydney. 500 performers from China's most populous province brought to Sydney's George Street cultural atractions from modern street dances to Shaolin monk kunk fu.
Henan is the cradle of Chinese culture. It is the birthplace of the Yellow Emperor, legendary founder of China's civilisation. It is home of famous Shaolin Temple where both Kung Fu and ZenBuddhism trace their origins.
Chinese performers showed their incredibile culture during New Year Twilight Parade in CBD last Sunday.

Chinese New Year Twilight Parade *1

O zachodzie slońca 2 500 wykonawców wzięlo udzial w dorocznej paradzie z okazji rozpoczecia nowego roku księżycowego. W paradzie uczestniczyli oprocz sydnejskich Chińczyków 500-osobowa grupa tancerzy i muzyków z chińskiej prowioncji Henan. Parada przeszla od Town Hall do Chinatown. Mowi sie, ze byla to najwieksza tego rodzaju parada poza Azją.
