Robosaurus in Sydney

Robosaurus is 12 m high and weighs in at 27 tonnes.. More than 30high-tech companies took two years to create this state-of-the-art hydraulic, electrical and mechanical monster. Robotaurus has made long journey from USA to australia especialy for 2010 Royal Easter Show.
Robothaurus is only one fire breathing robot in the world.

Easter Show Extravaganza

After a challenging 12 months, Sydney families more than ever need to take time out to reconnect and spend quality time together this Easter. That's the message delivered today by Michael Collins, Generl manager of the Sydney Royal Easter Show.


The Sydney Royal Easter Show is the largest agricultural Show in Australia with over 14,300 animals and 33,000 competitive entries.

One of the star attractions at this year's show is robosaurus - the 27 tone car-nivourous monster


The Show has everthing from cattle to the carnival.

2010 Sydney Royal Easter Show will be from 1 to 14 April at Sydney Showground, Olimpic Park.

Archibald Prize 2010

Sam Leach został zwyciązcą 89 edycji najbardziej znanej i najbardziej prestiżowej nagrody australijskiej w dziedzinie sztuki - Archibald Prize for Portrait Painting. Ogłoszenie nagrody odbyło się dzisiaj w południe w Art Gallery of NSW.
Z reguły nagradzane portrety to duże obrazy. Tym razem wielkośc prac nie odgrywała roli. Nagrodzony obraz to niewielkich rozmiarów portret angielskiego, kontrowersyjnego muzyka komediowego Tima Minchina. Leanch spotkał Minchina w Londynie w zeszłym roku podczas grupowej wystawy w Coven Garden. Rozmawiali wówczas o mozliwości wykonania portretu, jako że Leanch lubi styl komedii Minchina. Minchin sugerował namalowanie jego jako ukrzyżowanego na plastykowym, neonowym krzyżu , ale australijski artysta wybrał mniej szokującą pozę. Praca urodzonego w Adelajdzie i tworzącego w Melbourne 37-letniego Sama Leacha została wybrana spośród 34 finalistów. Na konkurs Archibald Prize 2010 zgłoszono rekordową liczbę 849 obrazów.


Leach otrzymał dzisiaj jeszcze jedną nagrodę jako zwycięzca Wynne Prize – for Landscape Painting or Figurative Sculpture za - również niewielkich rozmiarów - obraz zatytułowany: Proposal for landscaped cosmos.

Jak powiedzał szcześliwy artysta łączna suma 75 tys dolarów za obie nagrody pozwoli mu finansowo na twórczą swobodę przez następny rok.

Wśrod finalistów tegorocznego Archibald Prize można zobaczyc portrety znanych osób z życia kultury, nauki, polityki i mediów m. in. b. premiera Australii Malcolma Frasera, piosenkarki Kate Ceberano, biskupa z Archidiecezji Melbourne , Petera Eliotta czy najbardziej wytatuowanego sydnejskiego nauczyciela historii, Geofa Ostlinga.

Tydzień temu ogłoszono również nagrodę przyznawaną przez ludzi, którzy instalują w Art Gallery wystawę finalistów konkursu Archibald , tzw. Packing Room Prize. Zwyciężczynią została urodzona w Indiach sydnejska artystka Nafisa za portret Glenna A Backera, pisarza, podróżnika i historyka muzyki rockowej.

Archibald Prize to fenomen w kulturze australijskiej. Dyrektor Art Gallery of NSW, Edmund Capon powiedział , ze żadna nagroda artystyczna w przeciągu ostatnich 75 lat nie wzbudzała tak wielkiego i nie wzbudza z roku na rok coraz większego zainteresowania, jak Archibald.

Od jutra 34 prace finalistów będą dostępne w salach Art Gallery of NSW dla publicznosci. Odwiedzający galerię będą mogli sami wybierac najlepszy ich zdaniem portret a zwyciązca otrzyma Archibald People Choice Award 20 maja.

Animania Festival in Redfern

Animania Festival is Australia's largest anime and manga event, is a celebration and exploration of the spectacular world of Japanese pop culture!

Sydney Animania Day Festival has been organised at the Technology Park in Redfern, yesterday.

Animania began in 2002 as the first Japanese animation festival ever to be held in NSW.

Bringing together thousands of people from local, interstate and overseas, Animania creates an environment for fans - old and new - to come together and celebrate Japanese pop culture in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Since 2002, Animania Festival has steadily transformed in its diversity of events and focused on bringing not only a more exciting Festival than the year before, but a better Festival experience for fans of all types. This focus has seen Animania produce one of the most awesome and most fulfilling Volunteer Programs and the best staged Cosplay Competition events in Australia.

Sydney kicked off the first leg of the nationwide festival as eager to be chosen to represent Australia at the World Cosplay Summit 2011 in Nagoya.

In ‘Architecturally inspired’ waterside community at Rhodes Peninsula every new design of apartments has been selected by competition. The waterfront site slopes toward Homebush Bay with views across the water and mangroves to the Olympic Stadium.

The concept evolved from a desire to offer north facing water views with solar access and cross ventilation to the maximum number of apartments.

Each building has a combination of single level apartments and two storey crossover apartments with corridors at every two floors. This apartment typology ensures all apartments enjoy natural cross ventilation and receive good solar penetration to living areas.

Archibald Prize: Packing Room Prize

Sydney artist Nafisa has been awarded the Packing Room Prize in conjunction with the 2010 Archibald Prize for her portrait of Glenn A Baker, rock historian and travel writer.

Three-time holder of the BBC’s Rock Brain of the Universe title, Glenn A Baker is renowned for his encyclopaedic knowledge of rock music. He has written books and magazine articles on the topic, interviewed celebrities, managed bands and promoted tours of international rock stars. He is also a widely read, award-winning travel writer.

‘I met Glenn A Baker some years ago through the work I do for Jeans 4 Genes, the fundraising arm of the Children's Medical Research Institute,’ says Nafisa. ‘Each year he helps secure celebrity jeans, which are then painted by selected artists and auctioned at a charity function. We share a mutual love for travel and adventure, and I was intrigued by his boundless energy, enthusiasm and knowledge about all things to do with rock music.’

The size of the portrait reflects Baker’s larger-than-life, larrikin personality, depicting him sporting his signature hat and infectious smile. ‘Like his celebrity status, which may create a false distance between the subject and their audience, the sheer scale of the work forces you to view it from a distance,’ says Nafisa. ‘Yet the detail infers a more intimate knowledge and invites you to take a closer inspection, which reveals creative scrapings done with a razor blade.’

Born in Mumbai, India, Nafisa is a full-time artist living in Sydney. She has exhibited work in over 100 group shows and won over 50 awards and commendations including the First Prize (Gold Medal) at the 2007 Florence Biennale. She has been a finalist the Dobell Prize for Drawing, the Blake Prize for Religious Art and in numerous portrait prizes including the Portia Geach Memorial Award. She won the 2008 Black Swan Prize for Portraiture.

The Packing Room Prize gives the Art Gallery of NSW staff who receive the entries for Archibald a chance to vote for their favourite Archibald portrait. This is the Gallery’s head storeman, Steve Peters’ 26th Archibald Prize and his 19th Packing Room Prize.

This year there were 849 Archibald Prize entries for oldest and most prestigious art awards and one chose 34 finalists.
Announcement of winner will be on 26 March and very popular The People's Choice winner on 20 May

Chopin's Birth Anniversary Concert

Do łancucha światowych obchodów 200. rocznicy urodzin Fryderyka Chopina dołaczyło Sydney. W sobotę, 13 marca w tutejszym City Recital Hall odbył się koncert chopinowski zorganizowany przez Federację Polskich Organizacji w Nowej Południowej Walii.

Prestiżową salę koncertową centralnie położoną w środmieściu Sydney przy Angel Place - drugą taką po sali koncertowej Opery Sydnejskiej specjalnie akustycznie zaprojektowaną do wykonywania muzyki klasycznej, wypełniła australijska Polonia i sydnejscy wielbiciele Chopina. Na koncert przybyła m.in. gubernator Nowej Południowej Walii - prof. Marie Bashir , stanowa minister sztuki - Virginia Judge, ambasador Polski - Andrzej Jaroszyński, konsul generalny RP w Sydney - Daniel Gromann a także mieszkająca w Sydney żywa i ciągle aktywna legenda polskiej muzyki skrzypcowej, prof. Wanda Wiłkomirska.

To rocznicowe chopinowskie wydarzenie było wyjątkową okazją do posłuchania i zobaczenia na jednej scenie niemal wszystkich aktualnych polskich gwiazd muzyki klasycznej zamieszkałych w Australii, jednocześnie znanych publiczności międzynarodowej.

Kameralne utwory Chopina od Ballady g-moll po Poloneza Fantazję As-dur i Etiudę Rewolucyjną rozbrzmiewały w doskonałej interpletacji pianistów Grzegorza Kindy, Macieja Paweli , Krzysztofa Małka i Tamary Cisłowskiej, wiolonczelistów Michała Wieczorka i Karola Kowalika, skrzypka Stana Kornela oraz flecistki Ewy Kowalskiej . Pieśni Chopina wykonały Halina Gadd i Lilija Sile. Muzykę uzupełniały fragmenty listów Chopina czytane przez Michała Maciocha.

Queen Mary 2 at Sydney Harbour *2

Queen Mary 2 at Sydney Harbour

Hundreds people flocked to vantage points around the Sydney Harbour to watch the iconic cruise liner Queen Mary 2, arrive in Sydney halfway through her maiden world voyage. She is the largest ship to ever visit Australia.

The Queen Mary 2 - all 151,400 tonnes arrived at Sydney Heads about 5pm today before docking at Garden Island Naval Base at Woolloomooloo about 6.30pm.

The Cunard liner is too big to dock at the Overseas Passenger Terminal so the Royal Australian Navy has agreed to put her up for the night.


Reaching 62 metres above the water line, the 345m-long ship can carry up to 2620 guests and 1253 crew and boasts 10 restaurants, five pools, the biggest ballroom at sea and the largest library afloat, featuring more than 8000 books.

This is the third time Queen Mary 2 has visited Sydney.
