Rangoli art demonstration at The Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Mala Metha and Sadhna Risbud are creating in this weekend the Rangoli as part of program for exhibition Garden & Cosmos. Rangoli, one of the popular art forms in India is an expressio of warm hospitality using traditional patterns and symbols made from highly coloured powder. It is a form of sandpainting decoration and is commonly done outside homes in India.
As with Hindu and Buddist Mandalas, the use of powder or sand as a medium for creating fragile Rangoli is sometimes thoutht to be a methaphore for the impermanence of life.
